Configuration
The CISCO CATALYST 2918 series switches consist of the following switches (see figure 1) :
• Cisco Catalyst 2918-24TT-C: 2410 / 100 Ethernet ports and 210 / 100 / 1000 basst-t uplink ports.
• Cisco Catalyst 2918-24TC-C: 2410 / 100 Ethernet ports and 2 dual-use Uplink ports 10 / 100 / 1000 base-t or SFP.
• CISCO CATALYST 2918-48TT-C: 4810100 ethernet ports and 21010001000t basst-t upstream ports.
• Cisco Catalyst 2918-48TC-C: 4810 / 100 Ethernet ports and 2 dual-use Uplink ports 10 / 100 / 1000 base-t or SFP.
The SFP based Gigabit Ethernet supports the CISCO 1000BASE-SX, 1000BASE-LX and 100BASE-FX SFP transceivers
security
The CISCO CATALYST 2918 switch supports security features that help companies protect critical information, prevent unauthorized personnel from accessing the network, ensure privacy, and maintain uninterrupted operations. Using the 802.1x standard can realize dynamic, port-based security and provide user authentication function. Port security can restrict the access on Ethernet port according to the Mac address of the device, and by controlling the connection number of the device on each port, the switch is protected from Mac flooding attack, and the legitimacy of the access user is guaranteed.
USABILITY and extensibility
The CISCO CATALYST 2918 switch achieves network scalability and higher availability through a suite of multicast filtering and enhanced Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) .
Improvements to the standard Spanning Tree Protocol, such as PVST + , UplinkFast, and PortFast, allow for the longest network uptime. Pvst + can share the load of the second layer on the redundant link to effectively use the extra capacity in the redundant design. UPLINKFAST, PortFast, and BackboneFast all greatly reduce the standard Spanning Tree Protocol convergence time. The addition of Ring Protection and Bridge Protocol data unit protection prevents the Spanning Tree Protocol from occurring. The multi-layer QoS features provided by the CISCO CATALYST 2918 switch ensure that network traffic is categorized and prioritized and that network congestion is best avoided.
Quality of service
The CISCO CATALYST 2918 series switches use 802.1 p (Cos) to classify traffic groups. The CISCO CATALYST 2918 switch supports four output queues per port. At the exit, the switch performs scheduling and congestion control. The CISCO CATALYST 2918 switch supports Round-robin scheduling (SRR) and strict priority queues. The SRR Algorithm helps to ensure priority discrimination.
Management
Users can select a Web browser based on the Chinese graphical interface to set up the switch without the terminal emulator and command line interface (Cli) . Rapid setup reduces deployment costs by allowing people without extensive technical knowledge to set up switches simply and quickly.
